We went to see Holy Other last week at Village Underground, but I’m not going to talk about him as I already have done a few times (He has a new album out “Held” so check that out), Instead I’m going to talk about his support act and fellow Tri Angle Records member Vessel.
Vessel is the alias of 22 year old Sebastian Gainsborough from Bristol. He signed with Tri Angle in early 2012 and has certainly been on the up since then. Fusing Techno & House into eerie and pulsating beats this is something quite different and fresh and if i’m being honest can be a little unnerving to listen to at times, but that’s why I love it.
His debut album “Order Of Noise” is out on Tri Angle Records late September in the meantime listen to a few of my top tunes of his.
I have written about Holy Other on these very pages a few times, He released one of my favourite tracks of last year “Touch” and I went to see his first ever headline solo show at XOYO last night. Got there a bit late, missed Haxan Cloak and Lapalux because I was too busy gassing in the pub.
The gig was quite short as I guess he doesn’t have a lot of material (Just one EP) but what material he does have is Unique and quite magnificent. He played some new tracks, Which seem to follow on from his last EP “With U” It was a very dark and eerie gig, like everyone had been hypnotized, In a good way. I for one am very excited to hear his next release on Tri-Angle records coming soon. But for now Enjoy some of what’s Below.
So i decided to write about my favourite labels at the moment, and here they are, pretty self explanatory really.
1.NUMBERS
There were 3 labels, Wireblock, Dress to sweat & Stuffrecords that merged to become one, Numbers. Located in Glasgow they have released such acts as
JAMIE XX, REDINHO, DEADBOY, HUDSON MOHAWKE, RUSTIE, JACKMASTER, MOSCA, ILL BLU, Their numbers parties are apparently legendary although I wouldn’t know as I couldn’t get a ticket for love nor money when they held a party in London in December, Even when I offered sexual favours. Oh well roll on the next one and for now I will just have to listen to the array of talent they have on their books.
DEADBOY-WISH YOU WERE HERE
2.TRI-ANGLE
Robin Carolan Is the founder of this Haunting New York label which has released two of my favorite albums of the year in CLAMS CASINO & HOLY OTHER. BALAM ACAB also released a stunning album Wander/Wonder, which is on most top albums lists of 2011. Robin has also created the popular so bones club night playing hip-hop and rnb to us folk here in London and across the pond in New York. With guest dj’s including Girl Unit, Romy XX & and Beyonce’s little sis Solange.
HOLY OTHER-YR LOVE
3.NIGHT SLUGS
Created by James Conelly (AKA L-VIS 1990) and Alex Sushon (AKA BOK BOK ) NIGHTS SLUGS started as a club night and is now club night and record label. With a residency at east village in shoreditch, which sees them and most of their acts take to the decks Including JAM CITY, GIRLUNIT, EGYPTRIXX & KINGDOM.
KINGDOM-YOU
4.HOTFLUSH
Hotflush is one of the original dubstep labels, although their line up is pretty varied now fusing dubstep with garage and breakstep. DJ and producer SCUBA AKA Paul Rose runs it. Their roster is pretty impressive and includes SCUBA, SEPALCURE, MOUNT KIMBIE, JOY ORBISON, FALTYDL, BODDIKA, and ROSKA.

Ok this took alot of time for me to decide what i wanted to put on my top 10 tracks of 2011.
I have gone for the tunes that i played most and also the most played when we djied. I have left some crackers out but this is still a very enjoyable list and there will be big things to come in 2012 for some of these artists, Here we go with some IMMENSE TUNES.
